SEMANAeconómica spoke with Stefan Stern, vice president of Alicorp Soluciones, about the impact of the acquisition of Bolivian companies in the B2B unit, the results obtained and how the digital transformation will have an impact on its operations.
We see potential in the bakery, gastronomy and industrial platforms in Bolivia. Fino had already taken certain steps towards those platforms [mainly gastronomy]; however, they did not have the full portfolio. We are more advanced in the management model and with a more specialized portfolio, so in the following weeks we are going to work on a platform team program with Bolivia so that they can take the steps to adapt to the way we work here and with a model that is more evolved than the one they have there.

In a press release, Alicorp informed that, in terms of profitability, its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) grew 1% in the period under analysis, despite the impact generated by the increase in production costs and the demand for cheaper products.
On the other hand, the International Mass Consumption business recorded sales of S/ 473 million, 21.4% higher than in the third quarter of 2020, as a result of higher sales generated in countries such as Bolivia and Argentina, although at a general level, increases in commodity prices and measures such as price controls have had an impact on the margins of this business.

A lo largo de los aproximadamente 60 años que lleva en el mercado, Alicorp ha crecido mediante varias operaciones de fusión y adquisición con otras empresas locales. Perú sigue siendo el mercado más importante para Alicorp, y la empresa tiene una gran presencia allí en los segmentos de bienes de consumo y de empresa a empresa (B2B). Cerca del 75% de la contribución de Perú se concentra en las 10 categorías de bienes de consumo y tres de B2B en las que Alicorp tiene cuotas de mercado que superan el 60% de media. La relevancia de la empresa en su país natal está subrayada por una sólida red de distribución, que constituye una fuerte barrera de entrada para los competidores.
